Retail Wine Shop

A key part of any wine investment strategy is to locate a trusted wine retailor – the emphasis here is on ‘trusted’. As an investor, by definition, you are looking for hard-to-find wines. The best way to do this is to build a relationship with a store, and its staff, so that they can understand your wine need and can start supplying it (sounds like a drug habit!). This is especially important when futures time comes around and you want to be at the front of the pack of customers being sold the early futures allocations. Not all wine shops are set up to cater to a Wine Investor. The shop must provide the top wines for laying down. This is not wine snobbery; but if you want to ensure that you are going to make money, you have to be able to obtain investment grade wines.

Now, what is described is the ideal, however if you are the poor Winevestor who lives no-where near one of the main cities, and who does not have access to the type of store described above, you will have to use one of the other channels below. The good news is that with the ubiquity of the internet this is becoming less of an issue.
