Winevestor Definition
While the Wine Purist and the Pure Investor operate at the two ends of the spectrum, there is a middle group whom we call the Winevestor. Winevestors have a passion for wine and know that it is an expensive hobby. They love all aspects about wine and like delving into all wine related topics. They therefore know that to buy a wine when it first is on the market and then hold it for five, ten, twenty years, until it is ready to drink is part of the fun of the experience. It also stops you having to buy an aged, ready-to-drink wine at an exorbitant price. If you put more wine than you need down, you can then drink some and you can sell some, at a profit, which eases the cost of the hobby, as well as being downright fun. You are leveraging the knowledge of your passion to pay for that passion. The English used to have a saying that you put one case down for drinking, and another case down to pay for the one you drink. This way you can look your spouse in the eye and tell them that your hobby/vice is paying for itself. For the Winevestor the planning and selling of wine becomes part of the broader experience of this fascinating hobby.
This site is for Winevestors, and endeavors to give them information they need to buy, store, invest and sell wine. The site does not go into tasting notes of the specific wines – there are many, many resources out there that do that. We come un-apologetically from the viewpoint of the consumer and will always take their side in any discussion.
Whereas buying and selling wine was once the province of the wealthy, now there is a maturing wine world with brand new services focused on niche markets. In addition technology is flattening the field so that everyone has the information they need to score a good deal. Someone with a couple of hundred bucks to spare can buy a wine, hold it and then sell it later at a profit. The time of the Winevestor has come!
